Yeditepe University hosts II. TÜBA-KAST Joint Symposium "Biotechnology and Biotechnology Applications" collaboratively organized by the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) and the Korean Academy of Science and Technology (KAST).
The first symposium was hosted by KAST in Seoul, the capital of South Korea while the second symposium is held at the 26 Ağustos campus at Yeditepe University this year on September 20th under the scientific supervision of TÜBA council member Prof. Dr. Fikrettin Şahin.
Research Findings Announced
The symposium offers researchers and decision makers the latest findings in biotechnology, including medical and industrial biotechnology, bioprocess and protein engineering, business development, strategic alliances, product opportunities, growth business models and strategies, licensing in the field of pharmaceutical biotechnology, biological remediation, plant and environmental technologies, transgenic plants and animals and their ethical and social concerns.
TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevat Acar stated that the development and use of modern biotechnology will not only meet the increasing needs and demands for energy, food, health and environmental management, at the same time, he added that it has improved productivity and helped create new jobs, and that progress in this area has the potential for abuse leading to some concern and debate about the ethical, legal and social impacts of biotechnology. Prof. Dr. Acar said "For this reason, the possible scientific cooperation between South Korea and Turkey in biotechnology will be discussed at the TÜBA-KAST Joint Symposium".
