Our university provides associate and undergraduate students with the opportunity to pursue a second associate or undergraduate degree (double major) in a different program within the university, in addition to their primary program, or to study in a minor program in order to gain knowledge in a specific field.
All of our students can benefit from double major and minor programs without paying any additional fees.
Eligibility Criteria for Double Major Applications:
- To be eligible for admission to a double major program, students must have successfully completed all courses in their primary degree program up to the semester in which they apply.
- Students who will be admitted to a double major program must meet the foreign language proficiency requirement of the relevant program.
- Students who wish to pursue a double major may apply to the relevant Faculty Dean’s Office or the Vocational School Directorate within the timeframes specified in the academic calendar. Applications may be submitted no earlier than the second semester and no later than the beginning of the third semester for associate degree programs, and no earlier than the third semester and no later than the beginning of the fifth semester for four-year programs, the seventh semester for five-year programs, and the ninth semester for six-year programs.
- The student must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 out of 4.00 in the primary program, and,
- Must either rank within the top 20% of their class in the primary degree program, or, if not within the top 20% despite having a minimum GPA of 2.75 out of 4.00, must have a university entrance score equal to or higher than the base score required for the intended double major program in the relevant year.
For programs that require a national entrance ranking (Engineering, Education, Law, Pharmacy, Medicine, Architecture and Dentistry), students who wish to pursue a double major must also meet the relevant ranking requirement set by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) for the year in which they were initially admitted to the program.
In cases where the double major program admits students through a talent-based entrance exam, the student must also pass this exam to be eligible for admission.
Eligibility Criteria for Minor Program Applications:
- To be eligible for admission to a minor program, students must have successfully completed all courses in their primary program up to the semester in which they apply.
- Students who will be admitted to a minor program must meet the foreign language proficiency requirement of the relevant program.
- Students who wish to pursue a minor may apply to the relevant Faculty Dean’s Office or the Vocational School Directorate within the timeframes specified in the academic calendar. Applications may be submitted no earlier than the second semester and no later than the beginning of the third semester for associate degree programs; and no earlier than the third semester and no later than the beginning of the sixth semester for undergraduate programs.
- At the time of application to the minor program, the student must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 out of 4.00 in the primary program.
Additional Information Regarding Double Major and Minor Applications:
- In order to initiate a double major or minor program, a learning protocol must be signed between the relevant departments. This protocol should outline the additional, equivalent, and shared courses that the student is required to take, and must be approved by the University Senate.

- A student may withdraw from a double major or minor program voluntarily or under the conditions stipulated in the regulations. If the student withdraws, they are not required to repeat the courses they failed within the double major or minor program.
- It is not permitted to enroll in more than one second major degree program at the same time. However, it is possible to enroll in a second major degree program and a minor program simultaneously.
- A student who fulfills the graduation requirements of their primary program and successfully completes a double major program is awarded a second major diploma. A student who completes a minor program is awarded a minor program certificate.
