Yeditepe University Faculty of Dentistry in Tanzania


The voluntary team of 30 people educated 2 thousand 800 thousand children about oral hygene in August in Darüssalam and Morogoro with this jointly implemented project of General Secretary of European Dental Students’ Association EDSA, Turkish Dental Association, our student Azize İpek Yetişti, Student Union Communication Officer for EDSA and the Faculty of Dentistry Students in Tanzania.

In addition to educating the students, voluteers who also treated them in two teams obtained a lot of data about the region to be used in their works. According to the suggestions of World Health Organisation, while one dentist is required per 7 thousand 500 people, there is one dentist per 120.000 people within this region and more than half of the children have never been to a dentist.

Tanzanian children who were informed about general hygene in addition to dental health and dental hygene were given personal oral care products, 1600 soap, and a set of hygene made up of toohbrush and toothpaste. Teachers also benefited from the project in addition to students. 

At the end of the project participated by 30 doctors from 14 different nations, EDSA and Tanzanian Dentistry students drew up some regulations for the purpose of guiding the comittees which are going to organise the project in the following years. The project is planned to be implemented with the cooperation of EDSA and TDSA in the next five years.
