Associate professor Begüm Bulak Uygun member of the Yeditepe University Law faculty, has been elected member of the Council of ELFA (European Law Faculties Association).
According to the procedures ELFA has been applying for the past 20 years, a country that has been represented in the council can only be represented again after five or six years have passed. Once this period has passed, generally, a member from another Law faculty is elected.
When Professor Haluk Kabaalioğlu, who was a member and head of the Council of ELFA during the years 2009-2016, nominated his colleague Associate professor Begüm Bulak Uygun, yet again from Yeditepe University, as candidate for the council membership, the Head of the Council, Professor Laurence Gormley from Groningen University, said that “ Two members from the same country or same Law faculty have never, in the history of the council, been appointed consecutively in such a short time, but considering the importance of the Law faculty of Yeditepe University, I support this proposal”. Associate professor Begüm Bulak Uygun was elected unanimously to the council upon this.
Associate professor Begüm Bulak Uygun stated that she was much honored to be elected as a member to the council of ELFA and thanked the former Head of the Council and member of Yeditepe University Law faculty professor Haluk Kabaalioğlu for his support.
Associate professor Begüm Bulak Uygun asserted that she would represent Yeditepe University in the best possible way at the general assembly of ELFA. The general assembly of ELFA, which takes up current issues pertaining to the education of law and law articles, has for the time being 246 member Law faculties from 47 countries. Associate professor Begüm Bulak Uygun also underlined the importance of ELFA in transferring the concept of the superiority of law and rule of law to law students and researchers of this field.
