Prof. Dr. Meriç Köksal Akkoç: DNA Based Nano-Robots Will Drug Us

Prof. Dr. Meriç Köksal Akkoç, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Yeditepe University, gives information on future developments in drug design, saying DNA-based nano-robots promise cancer treatment

With targeted drugs, smart drugs, and nanotechnology enering our lives, drug design in the coming years will evolve in a completely different direction. While DNA-based nano-robots offer great promise in the treatment of cancer, artificial intelligence and wearable technologies are to be seen in the near future.

Giving information on developments to be experienced in drug design in the coming years, Prof. Dr. Meriç Köksal Akkoç of the Faculty of Pharmacy of Yeditepe University, emphasized that more reliable, more effective and higher quality work in drug design in parallel with technological developments has started.

DNA Nano-robots

Prof. Dr. Meriç Köksal Akkoç explained that the development of DNA-based nano-robots was planned within the scope of targeted drug studies, emphasizing that the side effects are reduced while increasing drug efficiency with targeted / intelligent treatment systems. Prof. Dr. Meriç Köksal Akkoç, said:

"New studies and results have shown that DNA-based nano-robotic systems have much higher activity and selectivity than previously agreed treatments. It is known that DNA nano-robots can be successful in specifically targeted tumor treatment. In addition, cancer immunotherapy research can reduce systemic toxicity while increasing response to anti-tumor treatments. "

Recognizing that technological developments have created medicine candidates with potency to be effective, Akkoç noted that they provide profit in both academic and industrial drug research in terms of time and cost.

Personalized Patient-Centered Designs

Meriç Köksal Akkoç pointed out that the concepts of personalized and patient-centered design are centered on the new R & D activities thanks to studies in genetic and biomedical fields. He continued:

"These studies will allow biosensors such as 'cancer detection pills' to spread in preventive health care, while allowing for customized applications in drug development and dosing regimens. For this purpose, it is expected that 3D printers, which are increasingly used in the medical field today will also become widespread in drug design. It is thus possible to reduce the economic disadvantages of drug therapies for achievements in these applications and for rare diseases. With technological developments like more sensitive and efficient body sensors, clinical trials before releases to the drug market will be easier, less costly and effective. "

Social Media For Medicines

"One of the areas where social media is increasing productivity is undoubtedly the pharmaceutical industry," said Akkoç. "It has been determined that social media has played a role in many issues like the reporting of side effects of drugs and seeking volunteers for clinical trials. It is predictable that the use of social media will increase even more in the coming years. "

Protective Treatment Will Become Easier

Prof. Dr. Meriç Köksal Akkoç also pointed out that in drug researches called "Pharma 4.0", many applications such as artificial intelligence, wearable technologies, body sensors etc. will be effective in the fast and reliable patients treatment and will also serve to facilitate technological developments in preventive health care (prophylaxis).
