Yeditepe University organized a special event by uniting Medical FacultyScrub Ceremony and Doctor’s Day. Freshmen took their first steps to the profession with scrub ceremony. Prof. Dr. Sina Ercan, Dean of Yeditepe University Medical Faculty, made the opening speech of the scrub ceremony and started his speech by thanking to Founder President of İSTEK foundation and Yeditepe University, Bedrettin Dalan, who just turned back from abroad. He states that this ceremony is a triple feast for them, and first of them the Doctors’s Day that is considered as a holiday of medicine, the second is scrub ceremony that symbolize starting the profession for the students, and the third is returning of Bedrettin Dalan.
In his speech Prof. Dr. Ercan states. that the doktorship requires to much responsibilty and loving people is the main condition of this profession. After the opening speech, Bedrettin Dalan made his speech and added: “I cried my heart out when I heard the Independence March here for the first time in seven years. May the god never keeps us away from our country.” “Medicine directly means human” he added and mentioned his interest for medical science. He was applauded when he said “The books always mention the darkness of medieval Europe, but none of them mantions our own darkness. There is only one person who saved us from this darkness: almighty Atatürk.”
Bedrettin Dalan tells the diffilculties he experienced while founding the medical faculty, and mentions the process the faculty went through since the day it was founded. Dalan mentions his struggle in order to make Yeditepe University Medical Department the best in the world and he adds that this profession requres responsibility. Qualifying human body as “god’s machine”, Dalan tells the medicine students that how special the thing they do is. Upon mentioning Neurosurgeon Prof. Dr. Gazi Yaşargil, who also joined the ceremony as a guest, Dalan added: “Your aim should be like Gazi Yaşargil, or even being better than him.” Dalan finished his speech with there words and was applauded for minutes: “If you love people, millions will give you love. Fortunately, I gave this love to people and I am getting love. To love is free. Hugs for all of you. Love.”
