A Meaningful Award Ceremony on the 8th March International Women Workers’ Day by Yeditepe University

Yeditepe University Women in Business Club has celebrated the International Women Workers’ Day via an online award ceremony. In the ceremony, those who have done successful work in order to achieve gender mainstreaming have received their awards. 

Prof. Dr. Sedefhan Oğuz, the Chairwoman Advisor of Yeditepe University laconically said, “Instead of speaking, we need to act”. who spoke during the ceremony.

The fourth edition of the "International Women Workers’ Day Award Ceremony" organized by Yeditepe University Women in Business Club, which was established to raise awareness about women's places and rights in business and social life in Turkey and to enable students to work while they are still studying, was held online this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We need to do something and assume responsibility”

Prof. Dr. Sedefhan Oğuz, the Chairwoman Advisor of Yeditepe University who gave the opening speech of the award ceremony, which was broadcast live from the YouTube account of Yeditepe University has said, “We are talking too much these days, especially today. Yet we, both women and men, need to act instead of speaking, and assume responsibility.  Oğuz, who said that she admired the efforts of the members of Women in Business club, has added: “All my support is for you; I hope that in better conditions, better days and speaking about better topics, we can celebrate Women’s day and I can happily clap your successes”.

“We want to emphasize that labour has no sex”

Fatma Nur Gedik, chairwoman of the Yeditepe University Women in Business club has stated that they want to emphasize the concept of “labour”. Gedik has stated that, “This day is signifies how ambitious, hard-working and creative women can be. This day is a day when we celebrate the precious position of women in business life and women’s labour... Therefore, because of this I think we should not celebrate this day without underlining labour.”

Yeditepe University Dance Club students' show created pleasant views for the spectators. Efnan Gersman, a member of the Women in Business Club, impressed all with her voice by singing two songs.

Awards were delivered before the ceremony to those who successfully worked to achieve gender equality and paved the way for this achievement in question. The names who attended the ceremony online and received their awards are as follows:
