A LUNCHEON IN HONOUR OF THE NOBEL PRIZE RECIPIENT

PROF. DR. AZİZ SANCAR MET WITH ACADEMICIANS, YEDITEPE UNIVERSITY’S FOUNDER AND THE DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE DEPARTMENT HEADS FOR A LUNCHEON IN ISTANBUL.

Working in the field of DNA Repair, awarded the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize in Chemistry, Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar, enjoyed a luncheon with academicians from nearly 85 universities within Istanbul and its surrounding areas.  The luncheon included the University Presidents, and several heads of science departments.
Students from Yeditepe University’s Department of Physiology, held a small meeting with Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar.  They showed him their own work and asked if he would give his signature to a poster of the double helix.

The luncheon in honor of Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar included; Yeditepe University’s Founding President Bedrettin Dalan, his wife, Ayseli Dalan, Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar’s wife Gwen Sancar, Yeditepe University’s Rector Prof. Dr. Canan Aykut Bingol, Yeditepe University’s Provost Prof. Dr. Sedefhan Oguz, Yeditepe University’s Faculty of Medicine: Department of Neurosurgery Department Head Prof. Dr. Ugur Ture, Yedietepe University’s Department of Genetics and Bio-engineering Department Head Prof. Dr. Fikrettin Sahin, Yeditepe University’s Department of Physiology Department Head Prof. Dr. Bayram Yilmaz, along with other Deans, and Department Heads from Yeditepe University

Bedrettin Dalan delivered his opening speech and pointed out that Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar is a national honor for all and it is not because of winning the Nobel Prize but also he has put forward his Turkish identity. Dalan has also emphasized that “We were longing for such kind of a success” and added that: “Yeditepe University has numerous successful academicians and I believe that in the long run Yeditepe Academicians will also bring new Nobel Prizes. Aziz Sancar has opened this door to Turkish Science World and new Turks will follow him.”

Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar also gave a speech after Bedrettin Dalan and thanked him for his expressed appreciation for his accomplishments

 Dalan’s musical composition was performed.

Due to Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar love of traditional Turkish music, throughout the luncheon, Yeditepe University’s Turkish Folk Music Organization made a small concert.  This concert was conducted by Artist Seher Celik.  The first piece, titled “The Song of Songs,” “Turkulerin Turkusu,” was composed and written by Bedrettin Dalan. The TRT Voices of the Orchestra, and the Yeditepe University Folklore Club aided in the choral singing.
