The Knowledge Center at Yeditepe University Celebrates its 20th Year at 52nd Library Week

Actor İzzet Günay donated a 1000-piece collection of art and history books, mainly on Istanbul and antiques, to out University during the 52nd Library Week, which coincided with Yeditepe University’s Knowledge Center’s 20th anniversary.

 

Bedrettin Dalan, the Founding President of Yeditepe University, Yusuf Akgün, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Sedefhan Oğuz, Advisor to the Founding President of Yeditepe University, actor İzzet Günay and his wife İpek Günay were present at the ceremony, as well as academic faculty and bibliophiles.

 

Günay, whose collection found a new home at Yeditepe University’s Library, expressed his pleasure and said the following: “These were the best books I had, the remaining ones. I wanted young people to benefit from them. I have enjoyed them greatly, now it’s their turn. Books have occupied center stage in my life. I always get excited at the topic of books. Books are a hallmark of civilization. Books are one of my favorite objects. When I hold a book in my hand, I have to smell it first, and then caress it, and then open it. Each book makes a person. Books are our closest friends, always loyal to us.”

 

The 82-year-old Yeşilçam veteran Günay, whose donation consists of around 1000 art and history books on Istanbul and antiques is also known as an antiques collector and a philatelist.
