ISIF’17 Invention Awards Announced

Nine awards to Yeditepe University from the International Invention Fair

Winning 9 awards at the "Istanbul International Inventions Fair (ISIF'17)", Yeditepe University won the highest number of awards among universities at the fair.  The awards were given to the owners at a ceremony held at Yeditepe University Engineering Faculty.

Yeditepe University won 9 awards at the Istanbul International Invention Fair which was hosted by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Organization under the support of the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology and the International Federation of Invention Organizations (IFIA). Yeditepe University received 5 Bronze, 2 Silver, 1 Gold medal and the Turkish Patent Institute’s (TPE) Best National Patent Award.

In his speech at the ceremony, Yeditepe University Founder Bedrettin Dalan said that universities have two important duties, such as giving good education and transferring the knowledge that they produce. "If you they not do these two at the same time, universities are not doing their duty or they cannot be called universities".

Bedrettin Dalan: “We are very close to receiving the Noble Prize”

Dalan stated that they are very close to winning the Nobel Prize not with one but with more than one study. "I can say that discoveries to contribute to humanity are in line, and some of them are finished. For example; the hair-related invention that we introduced 5 - 6 months ago at a press conference is almost over, it is about to be released".

189 International Patents in 10 Years

Saying that Yeditepe University philosophy is educating people capable of using knowledge, reaching knowledge and passing on knowledge, Dalan said, "I am happy that today we have come to a good point both in teaching knowledge and in producing knowledge. This is just a 20-year old university. Our university has received 189 international patents within 10 years. For the first time in Turkey, Yeditepe is the first university in Turkey to produce both knowledge and information. Patents are important because they generate knowledge, but if you do not get a patent, others will use all the plus values. We are also pioneers in this regard. Ten years ago, for the first time in Turkey we created a patent office within the university and we made every kind of financial aid to patent the knowledge of the scientists. Therefore, this university has passed other universities on patenting in a very short time. All our universities have very valuable scientists, but the information they produce is wasted. I advise everyone not to publish information without patenting it.”

Underlining that the government, TUBITAK and all the relevant ministries should support the inventors' universities, Dalan continued: "Only in this way can we get rid of external debt and external dependency. We can make our own medicine, our own defense system tools. If we want to exist in the world, there is no other way. "

After their speeches, Bedrettin Dalan and Rector Prof. Dr. Canan Aykut Bingöl presented the awards to the inventors who received awards at the Istanbul International Invention Fair.
