Assistant Professor Dr.Gökçe Bayındır Goularas, the director of Yeditepe University Research and Application Center for Global Education and Culture (KEKAM), expressed her gratitude towards all the contributors of the conference in her opening speech where she stated that there will be many important activities to come following this first event of KEKAM.

In his speech Bedrettin Dalan, the founding president of İSTEK Foundation and Yeditepe University, stated that human beings are nomadic, and by nature they are all ethnically and genetically related.

Expressing his ideas on the decrease of what human beings share, he said "The human side of the humankind has become much more egoist and wild compared to our hunter-gatherer ancestors. We are trying to find something humane inside dead humanity."

Reminding the audience the fact that Turkey has accepted 3.5 million Syrian refugees, Dalan continued " The Turks like sharing. One who can sleep while their neighbor is hungry cannot be considered Muslim. If there is big-sized international migration in the world, there is big inequality. On their way of unison, the western countries alienate those that are not like them, and they call it Western Civilization. They have an understanding of high technology, low humanity. If these big gaps persist, the situation might lead the world to a 3rd world war.

Mehmet Duman, the chairman of the executive board at WALD, stated that they were working on a project for the betterment of the conditions for refugees. He added that they will cooperate with EU to overcome the difficulties deriving from the migration of refugees, and to help them integrate into the society at a local level.
