AWARDS WERE GIVEN IN THE LUMA SHORT MOVIE FESTIVAL WHICH WAS ORGANISED WITH THE PARTNERSHIP OF YEDITEPE UNIVERSITY CINEMA CLUB AND AY YAPIM
Luma Short-Movie Festival which was organised with the partnership of Yeditepe University Cinema Club and Ay Yapım, was held between the dates of 24-26 May in order to support students who want to realize the short film projects that they dreamed of and to encourage young talents.
In the Luma Short-Film festival which was held for the first time in this year and which 300 students applied; awards such as The Best Short-Movie, The Best Short-Movie Scenario and The Best Long-Take scenario found their owners.
ISTEK Educational Board Chairman Barış Dalan, Yeditepe University Rector Prof. Dr. Canan Aykut Bingöl, Kerem Çatay and Yamaç Okur from Ay Yapım, script writers Ece Yörenç and Sema Ergenekon and directors Onur Saylak and Erdem Tepegöz were among the names who participated in the closing ceremony which took place at the Inan Kıraç Hall in Yeditepe University. The same names were also among those who awarded the participants.
Yeditepe University Rector, Prof. Dr. Canan Aykut Aydoğan who made the opening speech of the award ceremony has said: “As an academic, I have thought this: Cinema is actually a very important thing for us. From the moment we’re born, we start watching things. Cinema really does connect us to life for it helps us to see all our intellectual debates, fun moments and subjects we relay on each other. And now it is also a blessing to see all of you in a ceremony of such an exciting, fruitful and successful competition.
Kerem Çatay, the CEO of Ay Yapım has said that this festival was the best way to discover new talents and new projects, Çatay added: “God willing, we’ll talk on similar subjects in the 10th anniversary of Luma Short-Movie Festival. I thank our Dear Rector for her hospitality and I thank to the cinema club and all of you students for making this many application in such a short time. I hope we’ll be able to watch these movies of yours in different platforms one day.”
SHORT MOVIE COMPETITION
An anthology of 10 movies called “Luma Short-Movies Anthology” was screened at Yeditepe University for 3 days with the participation of the directors and the teams. These 10 short movies were picked by Director Ali Bilgin, Actor and Director Erkan Kolçak Köstendil and screen writer Sema Ergenekon. The award “Best Short-Movie” which equated to a sum of 10.000 TL was given to the short movie of Ercüment Çayır titled “İlk 10,000” The Viewers’ Award which was determined by the votes of the students of Yeditepe University was awarded to “Meryem” of Celal Yücel Tombul, while the honorary award was given to the “Gün Işığı” directed by Baturay Tunçat
SHORT-MOVIE SCENARIO COMPETITION
The screen writers and the directors of the 10 short movie projects which were determined by the pre-judges have made their presentations to the main jury which consisted of screen-writer Ece Yörenç, producer Kerem Çatay and director Onur Saylak. The projects “Baykuş Sesleri ve Sinekler” by Hasan Aydın, “Karayazı” by Ahmet Duvar and “Kuşlar İşer mi” by Arif Canpolat have received a “best short-movie scenario” award of 15,000 TL in order for them to realize their short-movie projects. Also, special for the first-ever Luma Short-Movie Festival, 10 finalist projects were awarded a post production award which consists of colour and sound mixing processes by Ay Yapım when they are to direct their movies.
LONG TAKE SCENARIO COMPETITION
The jury of the feature-length screenplay competition, consisting of Ahmet Katıksız, Erdem Tepegöz and Pelin Esmer, gave the 15,000 TL "Best Screenplay" award to Batıkan Köse's "Bana Yaklaşan bir Martı Mı Yoksa M Harfi Mi?" and the 5,000 TL honorable mention award to Ömer Sami Ciminli's "Rüzgarla Beraber" project.
