Russian Language Experts from 31 Countries Gather at Yeditepe University

The second "East-West International Russian Language Week" was hosted by Yeditepe University in Istanbul. Organized by the Russian Agency for Science and Culture (Rossotrudniçestvo) and Moscow State University of Linguistics, the event saw participation from experts from 31 countries, including France, Italy, Spain, China, and Austria. During the event, which took place from October 17-19 at Yeditepe University's 26 Ağustos Campus in Ataşehir, participants discussed new methods and contemporary approaches in Russian language education, and conducted special activities and classes aimed at eliminating cultural barriers and fostering intercultural dialogue.

"Learning Languages Brings People Closer Together"
During the event's opening, Yeditepe University's Founder and Honorary President, Bedrettin Dalan, remarked, "Humans are the only living beings that can communicate through language. Therefore, learning and teaching foreign languages are crucial for bringing people closer together. I believe our event marks the beginning of a new era of collaboration between our universities and partners around the world."

"A Major Platform"
Pavel Shevtsov, Deputy Director of Rossotrudniçestvo, noted that the forum has become a tradition, saying, "It has become the largest platform where Russian language experts from Russia, Europe, and Asia can come together, share experiences, discuss the newest teaching methods, and address challenges encountered in their work. Our event is a vibrant testament to the continued global role of Russian as a language of education, culture, science, and progress." Irina Kraeva, Rector of Moscow State University of Linguistics, described the "East-West International Russian Language Week" as "a wonderful event that brings together not only lovers of Russian culture, language, and literature but also professionals."

Dr. Hülya Arslan, Chair of the Department of Russian Language and Literature at Yeditepe University, stated, "The first Department of Russian Language and Literature in Turkey was established in 1936 by the command of the world leader Atatürk. Today, there are 16 Russian Language and Literature departments and 4 Russian Translation and Interpreting departments in universities across Turkey, with a total annual student quota of 760."
Experts from Moscow State University of Linguistics provided training over three days on new linguistic approaches, new language education methods, and interactive class suggestions for overcoming cultural barriers. The event also featured roundtable discussions where participants shared their expertise on various topics. Additionally, experts from Moscow State University of Linguistics conducted interactive seminars for Yeditepe University Department of Russian Language and Literature students. At the end of the training program, participants were awarded professional development certificates..
