Applications Now Open for the M. Gazi Yaşargil Young Neurosurgeon Award

The Department of Neurosurgery at Yeditepe University School of Medicine is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 5th “M. Gazi Yaşargil Young Neurosurgeon Award,” organized to encourage innovative scientific research in the field of microneurosurgery.

Named after Prof. Dr. M. Gazi Yaşargil—one of the founding figures of modern neurosurgery and widely recognized as the “Neurosurgeon of the Century”—this prestigious award aims to ensure that his groundbreaking scientific vision continues to inspire future generations. Through his pioneering techniques and transformative contributions to microneurosurgery, Yaşargil has profoundly shaped the course of medical history. His legacy continues to live on through the work of young neurosurgeons supported by this award.

The award seeks to recognize and promote outstanding research conducted by young neurosurgeons worldwide. Submissions are invited for original studies in microneurosurgery and microsurgical anatomy. All applications will be evaluated by an independent international scientific committee.

The winner of the award will be announced on June 20, 2026, in Istanbul, during the “14th Istanbul Yaşargil Microneurosurgery Course.”

The application deadline is May 1, 2026.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

Be 40 years old or younger,
Be a neurosurgeon or a neurosurgery resident,
Be the first author of the submitted article,
Submit a study related to microneurosurgery or microsurgical anatomy,
Have the article published in an SCI-indexed journal in 2025 (online-ahead-of-print articles are not eligible).
